How to use the Facebook transcript generator

You don't need a Facebook login. Three steps:

  1. Copy a public Reel or video link. Tap Share, then Copy link, or copy the address of the video page.
  2. Paste it above and press Get the script.
  3. Take the Facebook transcript. It comes back in about 5 to 30 seconds. Copy it for ChatGPT, or download it as TXT, SRT or VTT.

Short fb.watch links work too.

Which Facebook links work

Public Facebook videos up to 10 minutes long. These links work:

  • Reels: facebook.com/reel/…
  • Watch videos: facebook.com/watch?v=…
  • Page videos: facebook.com/PageName/videos/…
  • Short links: fb.watch/…

These can't be turned into a transcript from a link, because Facebook only shows them to certain people:

  • Private, friends-only and group-only videos.
  • Stories.
  • Streams that are still live. Wait until the replay is posted as a public video.

If a link fails for one of these reasons, no credit is used.

Facebook video to text, timestamped or plain

Every Facebook transcript has two views. The timestamped view puts the time in front of each line, so you can find a quote or a product mention fast. The plain-text view joins everything into one block for a doc, an email or a caption. You can search inside the transcript in either view.

Download as TXT, SRT or VTT

The TXT transcript is for notes and writing. SRT and VTT are subtitle files: SRT for editors like Premiere, CapCut and DaVinci Resolve, VTT for web players. Upload them with your own copy of the video and the captions line up.

Facebook transcripts in any language

We transcribe the audio with Whisper speech recognition, so it works on Facebook videos with no captions. The spoken language is detected automatically (English, Spanish, Tagalog, Arabic and many more) and the Facebook transcript comes back in that language. We don't translate it.

Who uses Facebook transcripts

  • Creators and page managers turn a Reel into a caption, a post or a newsletter section.
  • Marketers read how competing Facebook pages pitch a product in their videos.
  • Researchers and reporters quote a public Facebook video from its transcript and keep the timestamp.
  • Captions for your own videos. Add the SRT file for people who watch with the sound off.
  • ChatGPT. Press Copy for ChatGPT and ask it to summarize the video.

Facebook transcript pricing

Each transcript costs one credit per minute of video, rounded up. Plans start at $5.90 a month with a monthly allowance of minutes, or you can buy a one-time credit pack that never expires.

A failed Facebook transcript never costs a credit, whether the video is private, deleted, too long or has no speech.

Tips for a cleaner Facebook transcript

Clear speech gives the best result. Loud music and people talking over each other lower accuracy. Check names and numbers before you share the transcript. If a link doesn't work, open the Facebook video while logged out: if you can't see it, we can't either.

The same box also works for TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, X and RedNote.

Facebook transcript FAQ

How do I get a Facebook transcript?

Open the Reel or video, tap Share, then Copy link. Paste it into the box above and press Get the script. The Facebook transcript appears in about 5 to 30 seconds.

Which Facebook links work?

Reels (facebook.com/reel/…), videos on Pages (…/videos/…), Watch links (facebook.com/watch/?v=…), fb.watch short links and links from the Share button.

Can I transcribe a video without captions?

Yes. We transcribe the audio itself, so the video doesn't need captions turned on.

Does it work on private videos or groups?

No. Only public videos work, and only ones you own or are authorized to process. Friends-only videos and videos in private groups can't be opened from a link, and you won't be charged.

How long can the video be?

Up to 10 minutes. Each started minute uses 1 credit.

Can I download Facebook captions as SRT?

Yes. Download the Facebook transcript as SRT or VTT with timestamps, or as plain TXT.

How much does a Facebook video transcript cost?

One credit per minute of video, rounded up. Plans start at $5.90 a month, or buy a one-time credit pack. A failed transcript isn't charged.

Which languages are supported?

We detect the spoken language automatically — English, Spanish, Portuguese, Hindi and dozens more. The Facebook transcript comes back in the language that was spoken.

Do you store the video?

No. We process the audio to make the transcript and never store the original video.

Is TranscriptClip affiliated with Facebook?

No. TranscriptClip is an independent tool and is not affiliated with Facebook or Meta.
